Anyway, I decided to Google "Lowering your blood pressure" and it sent me to a site that recommended several steps to lower my blood pressure. If you need this device to help you focus and do it, so be it. Maybe taking a reading 10 minutes after eating two entrees wasn't a good idea. I measured the rate I had slowed my breathing to and realized it was about 3.5 bpm, so I altered it a little till it hovered around 5 as I continued reading the reviews. After reading through the reviews for about 15-20 minutes, I decided to check my BP with the monitor again.
All the usual ones like exercise, diet, taking BP medications if they are prescribed, and then it mentioned RESPeRATE and how this non-surgical device has been proven to reduce blood pressure. 117/79. I'm 37, and I used to exercise very diligently but have been slacking somewhat over the past few years. Wow, after just ~20 minutes. I don't usually consume too much sugar, but I don't go out of my way to avoid it.Well, I decided to get a home blood pressure cuff so I could keep track of my blood pressure and not have to listen to a doctor tell me my BP is borderline high when the only reason I'm at the clinic is because I'm in pain or serious discomfort.I took the monitor out of the box, read the instructions and checked my BP and it was 142/80. So I've occasionally had doctors take my BP and tell me that it's borderline high.
Although I still try to stay in shape and stay healthy (bodyfat % used to be 7% but is currently 14%), I tend not to watch my diet at all. Stage 1 hypertension according to the systolic reading. I thought, "Really.", so I followed the link to Amazon to check it out. After reading about the way the device is supposed to work, I changed my seating position/posture (was slouched on the couch) and altered my breathing pattern while continuing to read all the user reviews, taking slow measured breaths. So altering your breathing patterns really DOES make a difference. What can I say, the actual practice seems to yield real results. This is amazing. I don't watch my sodium consumption, I don't count calories or worry about fat content.
That was until I came across the review that mentioned that it isn't recommended to slow your breathing rate to 4 breaths per minute or less.
I can't say for others, but I'm happy with my numbers now. For 15-20 minutes a day I sit, relax and do nothing but breath. I also could probably lower the bp more by walking every day too. I do use the machine 5 days a week. After using it for a month, I had a scheduled doctor's appt to see how my bp was doing. RESPeRATE Blood Pressure Lowering MachineI've had this for about 6 weeks now. After reviewing my bp home chart, she decided that I was keeping it under control and did not need another med and could even "play" with my HCTZ to see if I still needed it. Does it really work or is it snake oil like some people say.
I was surprised to see that it even uses the phone as a sensor like the actual device. Specifically iBreathe. I have this product and use it daily. It looks to me that there are some iPhone alternative application out there that do the same thing. You may want to check these apps out if you have an iPhone, if anything its nice to have when traveling.
Some mornings my bp has gone down to 119/72, but that's after exercise, honest diet, and breathing exercises the day before. This resperate device could eventually be quite a cheap investment with a great ROI. My bp before using this was 140/85 and lately it's been 132/78. It's all good.
15 min to start is not hard to do. If you are spending $$ on medicines, I recommend you buy it. The more "Therapeutic" minutes you log per day the better. Maybe you can lower your dose or get off it entirely by using this thing. Some days however my bp shoots up and I don't know why. A few days ago I read on the resperate forums that you can increase the default 15 min sessions so I moved mine up to 20.
Combined with exercise and low sodium diet, I believe that someday I'll get off the bp meds. I have noticed my bp goes down in the afternoons and that overall since using this device, my bp in the afternoons has gone down. The "guiding" tones are easy to follow and overall I feel relaxed after each session. The retail cost of my bp w/o insurance is $190 per 90-day supply. I have used this product nearly every day for at least 15 minutes over three weeks now. I've already begun to question the need for the medicine with this thing.
A couple times I actually fell asleep.which is not recommended and when your breathing goes off the path, the device wakes you up and tells you how to get back on track.
I'm in my late 60ies & have had high blood pressure for many years.I LOVE this device. No matter what, my pressure stayedvery low after that no matter what time of the day I checked it. I didn't notice any difference at first but I kept using it.almost every night, because it's very relaxing & pleasant to use. I started on the 15th of March and it wasn't until about April 20ththat it really showed a big difference. And just to be sure, I stopped using it for a few days & sure enough,my pressure went back up.
